President praises able and far-sighted Chinese leadership
Kathmandu, 12 October (2019) – President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that President Xi’s able leadership had undertaken various epoch-making initiatives including effective implementation of good-governance and anti-corruption drive and progressive programmes.
Stating that more than 150 nations and dozens of organizations had been a part of the Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) that President Xi had launched in 2013, President Bhandari commended that the ideologies of Xi Jinping has become an important philosophy in socialism with Chinese characteristics and for the people-oriented development.
Delivering a statement in a state banquet organised Saturday evening in honour of visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Bhandari attributed the runway development of China to the able and far-sightedness of Chinese leadership and support of the hard-working Chinese citizens. Stating that the Nepal and China were linked by the mountains and tropical mountain rivers, the President said that Nepal and China shared century-old social and cultural ties.
Reminiscing the huge contribution made by the Chinese Buddhist pilgrims Fa Xian (Fa Hsein) and Hsuan Tsang (Xuan Zang), Nepali monk Buddhabhadra, princess Bhrikuti and architecture Arniko to bolster the Sino-Nepal ties at people-to-people level, the President said that Nepal and China shared a close, strong ties that, according to her, was based on the mutual trusts, honor and interests.
Stating that Lumbini in Nepal was not only a birthplace of Lord Buddha but a cradle of Buddhist philosophy, President Bhandari said that the teachings of Lord Buddha had guided the humanity towards peace, tolerance and co-existence. She said that Nepal was hopeful of receiving important support from China for the development efforts surrounding Lumbini.
According to her, Nepal was aspiring to develop Lumbini as the Centre for World Peace. Asserting that China always had been respecting the sovereignty of Nepal and its political freedom, she also appreciated China’s endorsement and support to the development endeavors chosen by the Nepali citizens.
The Head of the State reaffirmed Nepal’s stance to One-China policy and said that Nepal had been implementing all sorts of measures to not allow any anti-China activities in Nepal’s soil. President Bhandari described Chinese President Xi’s State visit to Nepal as a ‘happy co-incidence’, as it is taking place on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
“On this occasion, I want to congratulate and extend best wishes to President Xi and members of Chinese delegation as well as all Chinese people,” she said. The President said, “We have set a goal to develop into a middle-income country by 2030 and there is need of foreign investment as our country lacks enough domestic resources for the same. We want to request Chinese investors to invest in the production, infrastructure and hydropower sectors as well as social sector. The government will ensure full security of their investment.”
President Bhandari also lauded the support of China in post-earthquake reconstruction task, adding that the government of Nepal has expected Chinese support to make Visit Nepal 2020 a success. “Nepali people are looking forward to the operation of Kerung-Kathmandu-Lumbini railways. We believe these wishes of Nepali people would be fulfilled soon in the context that China has made significant achievements in railways development, with the use of modern technology and available resources,” she said.
