Government announces policies and programmes

Kathmandu, May 8 – KP Oli-led government has announced policies and programmes on Sunday. President Bidya Devi Bhandari in her hour-long recitation presented government’s policies and programmes in the parliament.

Government in its announcement has committed to work diligently for implementation of the constitution and build 138 laws this year for the smooth implementation.

Similarly, it committed to hold elections to local bodies in November this year.

Expedition of reconstruction works has been accentuated in the programme with implementation of ‘one house, one employment’ programme. Long-term strategy for reconstruction and rehabilitation has been focused.

Announcing upcoming fiscal year to be the year of departure towards prosperity, the government has announced next five years will be utilised to attain that goal.

Policy of increment in partnership with private sector for health insurance for Nepali citizens is one of the highlights of the policies and programmes.

Trying to take Terai-Madhes into confidence, special packages for Terai-Madhes areas have been announced. People’s drinking water with people’s participation programme, basic sanitation programme, upgrading of East-West Highway, international airport in Bara has been announced to address some problems people in the Terai face.

In an ambitious move to please the marginalised, the government has announced that all levels of education would be made free for children from Dalit and marginalised community.

To ensure women’s rights, President Women Advancement Programme has been announced to be conducted.

‘Build your own village’ programme that had gained popularity during Manmohan Adhikary-led government has been announced to be made more effective.

Youth employment programme, employment as social security, establishment of at least one big industrial area in each federal province, study of possibility of extracting petroleum products, increase in hydroelectricity, expansion of road network, 2018 as Tourism Year, helipads in all Village Development Committees are some of the programmes announced by the government.
