Policy-level corruption plagues country: Lawmakers

Kathmandu, 8 Aug - The Chairpersons of various committees under the Legislature-Parliament have said Nepal's prioritization of infrastructure development failed in implementation because of the faulty process of government in formulating policy and programmes.

During a programme organized by the Media Centre here Tuesday, they said the provision of parliament committee in the countries with a parliamentary system is mandatory, so the monitoring of the parliamentary committee could not be ignored in government activities.

Finance Committee Chairman Prakash Jwala said the parliamentary committees have significant role on development activities.

Public Accounts Committee Chairman Dor Prasad Upadhyay said his Committee was effortful to curb the irregularities facing infrastructure development in the country.

Coordinator of Consumer Rights Protection Subcommittee, Subash Chandra Thakuri, shared that his Committee has recommended strict regulation and monitoring in various sectors to ensure quality products and timely supply and control black marketing.

On the occasion, Auditor General Tankamani Sharma said auditing of all bodies in the district would be conducted in a swift manner.

Other speakers including constitution expert Dr Bhimarjun Acharya said the parliamentary committees could augment their role on monitoring development activities and check corruption from policy levels. RSS
