Kathmandu, 23 November (2020) - Incumbent Nepal Communist Party (NCP)'s Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" said that the current imbroglio in the party will be sorted out amicably.

Prachanda was speaking with the second rung leaders of the former Maoist faction in the NCP. Standing Committee members Haribol Gajurel and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi had gone to meet Prachanda on Monday at the latter's residence in Khumaltar, Lalitpur.

Rayamajhi told Lokantar that they had requested Prachanda to take initiatives to keep the party unification intact and sort out all the differences.

"We urged him to be firm in party unification," Rayamajhi told Lokantar. "We told him that any split will not help the either side and Prachanda has a vital role to play as the Chairman to ensure that the party remains unified."

Prachanda replied to them that all the existing problems will be solved in mutual agreement.

"Keep up your spirit of endeavoring for party unification," Rayamajhi quoted Prachanda to Lokantar. "My proposal has generated debates, which is good. A communist should always be ready to have debates."

Few days ago Prachanda had submitted a political proposal at the party secretariat meeting with more than a dozen allegations on PM Oli.

Saying that the allegations need a written rejoinder, Oli and his loyalists had asked for a period of 10 days. The next secretariat meeting will be held on 28 November.

PM Oli has been preparing to submit a counter proposal against Prachanda. Sources close to the PM said that Oli's counter proposal will not be limited to Prachanda's proposal but will be a comprehensive one.

"We have not floated the idea of a counter proposal just to reply to Prachanda," a leader close to Oli told Lokantar. "We will be discussing about the party's work plan and future strategy as well. The PM's proposal will be comprehensive."

He alleged that Prachanda-Madhav faction have been doing their best to split the party.

"We are ready for any situation. If they try to capture the party with brute majority, we too will show our majority in parliamentary party and in the standing committee. In case the party cannot remain unified, we can have an ordinance to split the party. They are wrong to think that our commitment to party unification is a sign of weakness," the leader close to PM Oli told Lokantar.

He also acknowledged that PM Oli had met with President of opposition party Nepali Congress and had proposed to share power. "We will take that step if the party does not remain intact," he said.

Prachanda-Nepal and Oli faction are busy in devising their own strategies. Oli agreeing to attend the meeting and being ready to discuss everything in the meeting is a positive signal, Prachanda-Madhav faction has commented.
