Surya Nepal Western Open, Sukra takes lead going into final round

Pokhara, 7 April (2021) - Sukra Bahadur Rai takes two-strokes lead going into the final round of the Surya Nepal Western Open here at Himalayan Golf Course today. Sukra carded three-under 66 for a total of four-under 134.  

Sanjay Lama scored another round of one-under 71 for a total of two-under 142. Amateur Subash Tamang scored two-under 67 for a total score of one-under 137. 

Bhuwan Nagarkoti scored one-over 70 for a total of two-over 140. Sanjeev Bahadur Nepali shot two-under 67 for a total of four-over 142 and tied with Surya Prasad Sharma, who carded two-over 71 and Bal Bhadra Rai who shot four-over 73. 

Binod Tamang is at six-over 144, he played a round of four-over 73. Five golfers are at nine-over 147, Tanka Bahadur Karki (72), Dinesh Prajapati (73), Lt. Col. Basanta Raj Gurung (75), Niraj Tamang (75), Bhuwan Kumar Rokka (75).  

Amateur Ritesh Tamang is at 10-over 148 along with pros Jayram Shrestha and Dhana Bahadur Tapa. Ritesh played seven-over 76, Jayaram scored three-over 72 and Dhana played seven-over 76. 

Sukra carded two-under 32 on the front nine with birdies on second and third holes. On the back nine, he made birdies on 15th and 17th holes against a bogey on 12th hole for one-under 34. 

Sanjay opened with a bogey on the first hole and made a birdie on the fifth hole for even-par 34 on the front nine. On the back nine, he made birdies on 10th, 13th and 15th holes against bogeys on 11th and 14th holes for one-under 34. 

South Asian Games double Gold medalist, Subash carded two-under 32 on the front nine with birdies on first, fifth and sixth holes against bogey on the second hole. On the back nine, he made birdies on 16th and 18th holes against bogeys on 12th and 13th holes for even-par 35. 

Nepal number one pro, Bhuwan scored all pars on the front nine for even-par 34. On the back nine, he carded birdies on 10th, 16th and 17th holes against double-bogeys on 11th and 12th holes for one-over 36. 

Sanjeev played even-par 34 on the front nine with birdies on third and eighth holes against bogeys on fourth and fifth holes. On the back nine, he made birdies on 10th, 15th and 17th holes against bogey on 11th hole for two-under 33. 

Other pros who made the cut were Deepak Acharya, Durba KC, Pradeep Kumar Lama, Rabi Khadka, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Deepak Magar, Sanjok Moktan, and Kamal Tamang.  

22 professionals and seven amateurs survived the cut at fourteen-over 152. A total of 51 golfers 37 pros and 14 amateurs are taking part in the third event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2020-21. The tournament organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The total cash purse of the tournament is Rs 735,000. The top three pros will receive Rs 130,000, Rs 84,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively.
