Madhav Nepal faction in UML prepares to register new party
Kathmandu, 18 August (2021) - Madhav Kumar Nepal faction in CPN-UML is preparing to register a party at the Election Commission on Wednesday.
The new party will be named CPN-UML (Socialist). Leader Jagannath Khatiwada said that the new party's electoral symbol will be "open book".
Earlier today, President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued an ordinance on political party on the recommendation of Nepal government. That ordinance allows 20 percent of parliamentary party members or central committee members to break away from the original party to form a new one.
Following the issuance of the ordinance, CPN-UML which enjoys largest seats in the parliament is about to be spilt.
