Surya Nepal Eastern Open Golf Tournament: Sukra leads going into the final round

Dharan, 29 December (2021) -  Sukra Bahadur Rai takes one-stroke lead going in the final round of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open Golf Tournament second event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-22 here at Dharan Golf Club today. Sukra carded three-under 67 for a total of two-under 138 to take one-stroke lead over Rabi Khadka. Rabi scored four-under 66 for a total of one-under 139.  

Overnight leader local pro Niraj Tamang slipped to third place after carding four-over 74 for a total of one-over 141. Another local pro, Bal Bhadra RAi turned in a card of three-under 67 for a total of two-over 142 to be tied with Dhana Bahadur Thapa at fourth place, Dhana carded one-under 69 today. 

Surya Prasad Sharma is sixth with the total score of four-over 144, he carded four-over 74 today. Amateur Subash Tamang, Sabin Sapkota, and Sanjay Lama are at seventh place with the total score of six-over 146. Subash carded one-under 69, Sabin scored one-over 71 and Sanjay turned in three-over 73. 

Amateurs Yubaraj Bhujel (72) and Jitendra Rai (72) and Tanka Bahadur Karki (76) are at seven-over 147. 

Bhuwan Kumar Rokka (75) and Bhuwan Nagarkoti are at nine-over 149. Amateurs Sadbhav Acharya (75) and Jiwan Rai (74) are at 10-over 150. 

Sukra carded three-under 33 on the front nine with birdies on third, sixth and ninth holes. On the back nine, he made birdie on the 12th & 16th holes against dropped shots on 14th and 17th holes for even-par 34. 

Rabi carded one-under 35 on the front with birdies on third, fifth and ninth holes against bogeys on fourth and seventh holes. On the back nine, he carded 11th, 17th and 18th holes for three-under 31. 

Niraj carded one-over 37 on the front nine dropping shots on first and fourth holes against a lone birdie on the sixth. On the back nine, he made bogeys on 13th, 14th and 18th holes for three-over 37. 

Bal Bhadra scored two-under on the front nine with birdies on first, second, sixth and seventh holes against bogeys on fourth and ninth holes for two-under 34. On the back nine, he carded birdie on 12th hole for one-under 33. 

Dhana carded five-under 31 on the front nine with the help of birdies on second, fifth, ninth holes and an eagle on third hole. On the back nine, he scored four-over 38 with bogeys on 10th, 13th, 14th, and double-bogey on 17th against a lone birdie on the last hole.  

22 professional and six amateurs survived the cut at 15-over 155 

A total of 48 golfers — 30 pros and 18 amateurs — are taking part in the 54-hole competition organised by Nepal PGA under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The event carries a cash purse of Rs 775,000 and top three pros will receive Rs 135,000, Rs 88,000 and Rs 65,000 respectively. Others in the top 21 will also get their share of cash prizes.

The tournament will conclude with the Pro-Am event on December 30.
