UML wins Birtamod Municipality in Jhapa
Kathmandu, 20 May (2022) - UML candidate Pabitra Mahatara has been elected mayor at Birtamod Municipality in Jhapa district.
Mahatara defeated her nearest rival Bhojraj Sitaula of Nepali Congress with the difference of 3,758 votes.
While Mahatara polled 16,520 votes, Sitaula got 12,762 votes.
Nagendra Sangroula of CPN-UMl has been elected deputy mayor. He polled 15,586 votes to win the election. His nearest rival Chandra Prasad Kadriya of CPN-Maoist Centre got 8,451 votes.
Mahatara has become the first female mayor of a municipality in Jhapa district.
