Minister Regmi seeks NGOs' role in building prosperous society

Kathmandu, 22 September (2022) - Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Uma Regmi, has sought roles of non-government organisations ( NGOs) in building a prosperous society by ensuring socio-economic transformation of deprived communities. 

In her address to a development expo organised at the local Bhrikutimandap Premises on the occasion of the Social Service Day here today, the Minister who is also the chairperson of Social Welfare Council said the Council was committed to ensuring transparency and result-oriented delivery of social organisations. 

She urged also urged social entities to cooperate with local levels to meet the project goals in an effective, transparent and accountable way. 

"Social organizations have their significant roles in socio-economic development in Nepal," she said underlining the need to increase their efficiency in the days ahead.  She also spoke the need of revising the Council's structure as per the country's federal setup. 

The programme was observed with the theme, "National Campaign for Achievement of Sustainable Development and Periodic Goals, the Contribution of the Association for the Building Inclusive Society".

The daylong exhibition had a demo of development undertakings and products of social organisations.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. He also launched the Council's 'digital portal'.    

Till the end of last fiscal year (2021-22), a total of 54,015 NGOs and around 200 INGOs were associated with the Council.
