India close day 1 of 1st Test against New Zealand at 291/9
Kanpur (India), 22 Sept - India, after electing to bat, got off to solid start with the 112-run stand between Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara.
KL Rahul was out after scoring a brisk 25 but Vijay and Pujara put the innings back on track in brisk fashion. Both scored individual fifties in the process and put India in a strong position at Lunch.
The afternoon session however belonged to New Zealand as they not only scalped the set pair but also got the wicket of Virat Kohli.
The final session also belonged to the visitors as the Kiwis made the most of the new ball and picked up five wickets in the final session.
At close of play, India stood at 291/9 with Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav in the middle.
