Kathmandu, 7 March (2021) - Former Chairman of Constituent Assembly and leader from Oli faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Subash Chandra Nemwang said that the prime minister needs to take vote of confidence after the Supreme Court verdict.

"We formed a government of unified party. Since the court decision rendered the party to the status quo ante before the unification, experts have been correctly saying that the government has changed in line with Article 76(2) of the constitution. Constitution provides for securing vote of confidence in this situation," Nemwang said.

He further said that taking vote of confidence depends on the PM.

"I have told you about the constitutional provision but can't say anything whether the PM will take vote of confidence," Nemwang told Lokantar.

Article 100(2) of the Constitution says, "If the political party which the Prime Minister represents is divided or a political party in coalition government withdraws its support, the Prime Minister shall table a motion in the House of Representatives for a vote of confidence within thirty days".

But the PM does not need to take a vote of confidence if Maoist Centre fails to withdraw support to the government.
