Kathmandu, 15 January (2023) - Yeti Airlines plane has crashed at Pokhara International Airport Sunday. The airport had started operations 15 days ago.

Former Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Ratish Chandra Lal said that this is the biggest crash in Nepal's domestic flight history. None of the ATR 72 aircrafts had crashed in Nepal in the past.

The plane was carrying capacity 72 people.

Such a big crash just after 15 days of the inauguration of Pokhara Airport has saddened the aviation sector, he said.

Most of the crashes occur among small planes that fly to remote locations in the country. This is the first time such a big plane crashed in Nepal.

Only Yeti Airlines and Buddha Air have been flying such big planes.

The crashed aircraft had been flying for the last 15 years and five hours. Kingfisher Airlines of India had also flown the same aircraft in 2007.

Thailand's Nok Air had also flown this aircraft from 2013 onwards. Yeti Airlines started flying it since April 2019.

Yet Airlines had conducted a demo flight at Pokhara International Airport on 22 December.

All the regular domestic flights to Pokhara took place at Pokhara International Airport from January 1.

This is 50th multi-engine plane crash in Nepal.
