Supreme Court issues verdict, Home Minister Lamichhane's citizenship illegal

Kathmandu, 27 January (2023) - The Supreme Court has issued a verdict proclaiming Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane's citizenship certificate to be illegal.
His Member of Parliament and ministerial status is also in jeopardy following this decision. There would be a by-election in Chitwan district constituency-2 from where Lamichhane was elected with a landslide.
The court in its verdict has opined that Lamichhane did not follow proper process in obtaining Nepali citizenship after renouncing the US citizenship.
