Second day of Sub-Junior Challenge Cup Badminton: Rijn and Satyam Enter Quarterfinals
Kathmandu, 12 Jan (2024) : On the second day of the 2nd Yonex Sunrise Eenas Sub-Junior Challenge Cup National Badminton Tournament-2080, Rijan Thapa Magar from Tribhuvan Army Club and Satyam Karki from Dhanyantari secured their places in the quarterfinal round of the U-13 category.
In the U-13 singles match held at the Deepak Badminton Academy in Manmaiju, Rijan defeated Akshat Dhungel, who represents the International Badminton Development Center, by 21-13 and 21-8, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. Similarly, Satyam defeated Kaski's Amit Thapa by 21-12 and 21-13, earning his place in the quarterfinals.
Sadeep Rai from Sports Hub, Aarush Simkhada from APF Club, Saphal Bhujel from Tanahun, Riyans Chaudhary from Kailali, Sudesh Rajkoti from Army, and Pranish Karki from Police School have also advanced to the last 8 in the competition organized by Eenas, the official distributor of Yonex for Nepal. In the competition, 35 players secured spots in the pre-quarterfinals on Friday.
In the tournament held on Friday, Sadeep defeated Diyon Bhandari from Deepak Badminton Academy by 21-19 and 21-5, Arush defeated Aditya Chaudhary of Kailali by 21-15 and 21-16, and Safal defeated Raj Ghimire from Kapilvastu by 21-7 and 21-14.
Similarly, Riyans beat Deep Thing from the army by 21-13 and 21-14, Sudesh beat Arav Shakya from Mahabuddha Club by 21-5 and 21-7, and Pranish got a walkover from Prince Thapa Magar, securing his place in the last 8. The competition, which started on Thursday, will continue till Sunday.
